Reception & Dinner - Brooks's, St James's Street
Friday 9 October 2009
Dress: Black Tie

To start his year in office the Master would like to welcome Guild members and their guests to Brooks's, which is one of the oldest and most exclusive of the gentlemen's clubs in the West End. Established in 1764 for gaming, gossip and good dress, originally its primary purpose was to provide a home away from home for the gentleman of the time, a place where he could meet his friends (and avoid his and others' ladies)!

During the pre-dinner reception in the Spencer Room there will be a short presentation on the history, paintings and other features of the Club, followed by an opportunity to look round some of the outstanding rooms in this lovely building. A traditional 4-course dinner will then be served in the Grand Subscription Room, surrounded by paintings by Sir Joshua Reynolds, and the evening will be brought to a close by a prestigious guest-speaker.
