Weekend Visit to Epernay
Thursday 18 September 2008 - Monday 22 September 2008
Dress: Comfortable

Notwithstanding the fact that the Guild visited Reims and the Champagne country at the start of the millennium, the Master felt that this would be the perfect place to celebrate the Guild's centenary. In view of the distance to travel and the riches to see and taste, the trip will last 4 nights and 5 days.

An early start from the Eurostar terminal at St Pancras will ensure there is time to settle in and relax at the Hôtel de la Paix in the centre of Reims before visiting Maison Taittinger at their Demeure des Comtes for the first of the week-end's fabulous meals.

The next few days will include a tour of the Taittinger cellars, a guided tour of the City of Reims and its magnificent cathedral (where the kings of France were once crowned), and a visit to the Basilica of St Remy.

Excursions being planned include a trip to Epernay to the cellars of Moet & Chandon, and to nearby Haut Villers to visit the church and the monastery that was once the home of Dom Perignon.

On one of the evenings there will be a visit to the House of Pommery, to visit the cellars which boast displays of modern art as well as seemingly endless racks of maturing champagne, before enjoying a welcome tasting and dinner. Other delights will be included in this amazing adventure before the party heads back to the Gare du Nord and then has an opportunity to relax over dinner on the Eurostar as it speeds back to St Pancras.

The overall cost of this fabulous weekend has yet to be finalized, but it will not exceed £900.00 per person for two people sharing a room.
